What kind of personal information do we collect and why

Comments

If a visitor leaves a comment on the site, we collect the information on the comment form and we collect the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent information to detect spam.

The anonymized string of your email address (“hash”) may be provided to the Gravatar service to determine whether you use it. The Gravatar privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/ . After approving a comment your profile picture will be publicly visible in the context of your comment.

Mediafiles

If you are a registered user and upload pictures to the site you should probably avoid images with EXIF metadata, because they may contain your GPS location data. Visitors can extract this information by downloading images from the site.

If you comment on our site you can have your name, email address and website saved in cookies. This is for your convenience so that you do not have to fill it in again when you re-comment. These cookies are stored for one year.

If you have an account on the site and log in, we set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser supports cookies, the cookie does not contain any personal information and is deleted when you close your browser.

When you log in to your account we also set some cookies with your login details and screen settings. The login cookie is stored for two days and the screen settings cookie is stored for a year. If you choose the “Remember me” option, log in data is stored for two weeks. The login cookie expires after one day if you log out.

If you edit or publish an article, the browser will store an additional cookie that contains no personal info and only the ID of the post you edited, it expires after one day.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are stored indefinitely. This is to automatically detect and approve future comments instead of waiting for approval.

For users who register on our site, we store the personal information they put on their profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their profile information at any time (except for username). The web site administration can also see and change this information.
